Antu Danda-Gem of the Eastern Nepal
A new destination still un-trodden by tourists.

Antu Danda, situated in the Eastern part of Nepal is one of the place of high tourism potentiality but un-trodden yet by tourists. Encircled by enchanting views, green forests and tea plantation, Antu Danda is the best place in Nepal to view sunrise and sunset. Best weather at all time coupled with hospitable people have given an opportunity to Antu Danda to become one best tourist destinations in the future. Infrastructures are still underway and facilities are limited but the Natural beauty of Antu Danda and its surroundings is just great.

Antu Danda is about 35 Km southeast from the district headquarters Ilam, and about 12 Km southeast from Fikkal. On the border area of Shree Antu lies Darjeeling, the hill district of India, Samalbung VDC, and Mechi River in the east, the most magnificent tea estate Kanyam in the southwest, Fikkal in the northwest and Pashupatinagar in the north. The best viewpoint is at an elevation of 1677 meters in ward-number 1 of neighboring Samalbung VDC. The Antu Danda viewpoint is famous for viewing sunrise, sunset and the beautiful views of Himalayas such as Kanchenjungha (8586 meters) and Kumbhakarna (7710 meters).

Shree Antu has terraces, slopes, and flat lands covered by different type of vegetation. Most of the lands are occupied by cash crops. The sub-tropical climate ensures good weather all year. However, October, November, December are considered to the best months to visit this place because of various festivals observed during these months.

Shree Antu is well forested with pine trees. In addition to the scenic beauty of sunrise and sunset and the view of the majestic Himalayas, a tea garden recently developed at Shree Antu has made the place more attractive for tourism. A large pond popularly known as Antu Dhap(Guill) nn the top of the hill, near view tower is an added attraction of this place.

Ilam bazar, which has been designated as the district as well as the zonal headquarters, is inter-linked by motor able roads with many important places within the district such as Maipokhari, Maimajuwa (For Sandakpur), Gajurmukhi, Pathibhara, Kanyam, Fikkal, Shree Antu. Similarly it has also linkage with Phidim and Taplejung in the north and the East West Highway in the south. Ilam bazar itself comprises the popular temples of Maisthan, Narayansthan, Singhabahini, Shankaridevi, Bhimsensthan and Setidevi.

A wide range of ethnic-groups with their typical customs, traditions and cultures live here which include Lepchas,, Magars, Gurungs, Rais, Limbus, Sherpas.There are many places suitable for trekking to Antu and from Antu to Kanyam, Chhipitar, Siddhikhola, Baudhadham, Pasupathinagar, Chhabise, Chhiruwa. Trekkers can enjoy the orchid flowers, Mechi river, pond, Lephca museum, orange farming, bee keeping along the trekking routes with the view of Himalayas at the backdrop.

Details Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.
Meet the guide at the airport and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: At Kathmandu.
Sightseeing of Pashupatinath Temple, the holiest Hindu Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, the biggest Buddhist Stupa and Bhaktapur-the medieval Malla Principality. Overnight hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu/Flight Bhadrapur-Drive to Shri Antu Danda.
Today, we fly to Bhadrapur and drive to Shree Antu Danda. Overnight local lodge.

Day 04:Shri Antu Danda.
In the morning, sunrise view over the Himalayan Panorama. You will have the splendid views of Himalayas such as Kanchenjungha (8586 meters) and Kumbhakarna (7710 meters).
In the afternoon, visit Philkkal and Kanyam Tea State. Overnight local lodge.

Day 05: Shri Antu Danda-Ilam
Drive 35 km to Ilam Bazaar-the district head quarter of Ilam District of Nepal. Visit the temples of Ilam Bazaar. Overnight local lodge.

Day 06: Ilam Bazaar
Excursion to Mai Pokahrai and return to Ilam Bazaar.

Day 07: Ilam Bazaar -Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Drive to Koshi Tappu Wilflife Reserve. Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is the paradise for bird lovers. Overnight bungalow.

Day 08: Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve
Today, we stop here for different jungle safari/birding tours.Overnight bungalow.

Day 09: Koshitappu-Janakapur
Drive to Janakapur-the birth place of goddess Sita-the consort of Lord Rama. Visit the Janaki Temple. Overnight hotel.

Day 10: Janakapur-Hetauda
Drive to Hetauda. Stroll in the market. Overnight hotel.

Day 11: Hetauda-Daman
Drive to Daman, which has the best view of Himalayas. On a clear weather day, even Mount Everest is visible from here.

Day 12: Daman-Kathmandu.
Drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 13: Kathmandu
Sightseeing tour to Patan, Swayambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Overnight hotel.

Day 14: Departure
Transfer to airport for departure.
