A trek via Chola La to Everest Base Camp is the perfect trekking package in Nepal that provides stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range from several vantage points. Chola La to Everest trek begins with a quick flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and then a trek to the town of Namche. Namche is the place you will find that modern amenities and facilities are available, before you venture higher up into the mountains. Some names on the map such as Dingboche, Dole, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and Kala Patthar will keep you engaged on the track but the truly memorable names of the trek are Cho-La Pass, Gokyo, and Everest Base Camp! These are the crowning jewels of this itinerary. These are the places that will make you forget everything you know about high-altitude trekking and ingest you with a new feeling of appreciation, beauty, and grandeur of the mountains.

On the way back to Kathmandu, you will spend a couple of nights in Lukla and Namche – the towns that are nearly, literally, at the most secluded locations on the entire planet.

Itinerary (19 days) Chola La to Everest

Day 01

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,750m) and trek to Phakding (2,610m)

Head towards the airport for an early morning flight to Lukla. The 45-minute flight will take you from the busy capital city to the quiet village of Lukla. After breakfast at Lukla, trek to Phakding and enjoy a pleasant night at a lodge.

Day 02

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

After breakfast, begin the trek from Phakding to reach Namche Bazaar located at an altitude of 3,440 meters in Solukhumbu. The trek takes about 7 hours, and at the end of the day will get to relax in a hot bath or a hot shower before bed.

Day 03

Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

Take a day of rest today, to adjust your body temperature with the altitude. We recommend you to take little hikes and explore the village of Khumjung. Return to Namche for a good sleep as you will need the energy for the trip ahead.

Day 04

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,680m)

In the morning begin from Namche and trek for about six to seven hours until you reach Tengboche (3,860 m). Tengboche is the iconic village in the region with its monastery and the stronghold of Sherpa culture. With backdrops of Mt. Ama Dablam and Mt. Thamserku, this beautiful village will be your place of stay fro the night.

Day 05

Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,250m)

On the fifth day, we trek to Dingboche at an altitude of 4,250 meters. The trekking duration is around seven hours and is a mixed bag of difficulties – with some sections requiring more stamina than others. Upon reaching Dingboche, take some meal and stay overnight at a tea-house or a lodge.

Day 06

Acclimatize in Dingboche

You will spend the day in acclimatization. Take short walks and  tiny hikes around the village, and regain your strength for the journey ahead. The nearby Chhukung Valley is a good destination for a hike during the day. Return to Dingboche early and sleep to save on energy.

Day 07

Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4,950m)

After a quick early breakfast, begin the trek from Dingboche. The duration you walk today is roughly about seven hours with a little highs and lows in the terrain. Arriving at Lobuche (4,950m), you will instantly fall in love at the ravishing beauty of Mt. Pumori and Ama Dablam. Stay overnight at a lodge.

Day 08

Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5160m)

Today we trek to Gorak Shep located at an altitude of 5,160 m. From Lobuche, the trekking duration is around three hours – and is mostly below-average difficulty. In the evening, we will reach the Everest Base Camp itself – the only place on Earth where you will find a high concentration of people wishing to climb the highest peak.

Day 09

Trek to Gorak Shep to Kalapatthar (5,545m) and to Lobuche (4,950m)

After a quick tea or coffee early before the dawn, trek o Kalapatthar for stunning views of the mountain range. The vantage point of Kalapatthar is at an altitude of 5,545 meters, from where trekkers can have glorifying views and hues of the highest mountain range on the planet. After memorable photography, trek to Gorak Shep for lunch and continue on to Lobuche at 4,950 meters where you will stay for the night.

Day 10

Trek from Lobuche to Zong-La (4,740m)

The trek today from Lobuche to Zong-La takes around five hours at a hastened pace and six hours at a leisurely pace. Today we cross the iconic Cho-La pass from where the views are great! And then call it a day at Zongla. Although devoid of ample facilities, a good drink of tea and a warm bed for the night is what is available at Zongla.

Day 11

Trek from Zongla to Chola-La Pass (5,483m)

Today we will trek to Chola-La Pass located at 5,483m and  descend to Thanga (4,500 m). The route is sometimes covered in snow, so extra care should be given to avoid falling down or slipping on the tracks. Reach Cho-La Pass and look for a tea-house to sleep for the night.

Day 12

Trek from Cho-La to Gokyo (4,790m)

La literally means a Pass in local language. Leaving behind the pass, our route turns towards Gokyo located at 4,790 meters. The average walking duration today is around five hours at a normal pace. Once we arrive at Gokyo we will have lunch, take photographs of the deep emerald lakes, enjoy the view even more, and unwillingly, leave the vantage point to get into a lodge for the night.

Day 13

Trek from Gokyo to Gokyo-Ri (5,483 m)

Ri is the term used by the Sherpa to identify a lake. Climbing up from Gokyo, expect the kind of view that you will ultimately have from the viewpoint. Once there, a panorama of the upper Gokyo lakes, glaciers and a large chuck of the Himalayan range is what you will see. And if you begin to name the mountains one by one, you will definitely count in Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and others.

Day 14

Trek from Gokyo to Dole

Begin in the morning from your camp in Gokyo and descend towards Dole. While you will notice the variations in the track elevation, going up and down, and up and down again, will enthrall you during the trek. This cozy walk is what you will remember from the day of trek before you go to sleep in a lodge or tea-house in Dole.

Day 15

Trek from Dole to Namche Bazaar

Today you will trek for around six hours in a normal pace to reach Namche Bazaar. Passing via the village of Khumjung before arriving at Namche, you will remember the experience you had and the views of the mountains that you photographed in this trekking program. Namche Bazaar is aplenty with facilities – hot bath, espresso, medical clinic, pub, and even Internet cafes and Wi-Fi connectivity. Day 16

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Phakding

Nearing the end of the trekking program, today you will trek back to Phakding. The average walking duration is around five hours at a comfortable pace. At the banks of the river, you will spend the night at a lodge in Phakding.

Day 17

Trek from Phakding to Lukla

After a leisurely breakfast, we will start from Phakding and trek to Lukla. Upon arriving in Lukla, you can take a walk around the village, get into a restaurant for some food or simply take a drink and while away the rest of the day. Spend the night in a lodge.

Day 18

Travel from Lukla to Kathmandu

Take an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. This 45-minute flight will suddenly take you from the quietness of the mountain village into the busy city of Kathmandu. At the airport, representatives from Himalaya Holiday will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day at leisure shopping, dining or simply resting at the hotel.

Day 19

Airport transfer Depending upon the time of your flight ahead, we will take you to the airport a few hours before your flight – concluding this trip program in Nepal.
