Helicopter tour in different seasons

The season of your travel makes a tremendous difference in your travel experience. Weather plays a major role in helicopter flights. It mainly contributes to the safety and the overall experience of the trip. The weather depends on the season of your travel to the Everest region. Although you can do helicopter tours throughout the year, some months are highly recommended than others.

Here is what you can expect on your helicopter flight during different months:

March to June: Just as spring arrives, wildflowers start blooming throughout the region. This makes the scenery colorful and vivid. The temperature will swing around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius during the day. The mornings are more relaxed, with temperatures around 0 to 5-degree Celsius.

July to September: The months from July to September bring downpour throughout the region. As the region becomes wet, the vegetation gets much greener with a hefty amount of moisture. During the days, the weather will not be clear, so helicopter flights are not recommended around this time.

September to December: During this period, the weather is the clearest. As winter approaches, days get shorter in this region. The temperature circulates from -5 to -10 degrees Celsius in the morning. During the daytime, it gets warmer with 15 to 20-degree Celsius.

December to March: These are the coldest months in this region. With the highest chances of snowfall, the temperature drops down to -15 degrees Celsius. If the weather is clear, the maximum temperature is around 18-degree Celsius. If a flight is possible during this season, you can get amazing views of peaks covered in white snow.

Clothing during Everest Helicopter flight

It is important that you are aware of what you should wear or carry for your Everest Helicopter flight. Your journey will have several fractions, which will take you to different weather. Being well prepared with clothing is a must to stay comfortable and gain proper experience of the trip.

You may reach places that have freezing temperatures. Thus, you must keep yourself warm. To begin with, you should have a good set of inner wears that provide warmth close to your skin. From here, you can stack two or three layers of clothes. Wearing clothes in several layers is always better than wearing fewer layers with thicker clothing.

For the outermost layers, make sure you have a waterproof jacket and trouser. Waterproof down jackets are the most recommended outerwear. Depending on the nature of the trip you choose, you can wear anything from sneakers to trekking boots. If you wish to trek for some distance, it is better to wear trekking boots. If you are only dropping at the destination and plan to explore nearby areas, sneakers are good enough.

Moving on to gears, you will need sun hats and scarfs. These contribute to keeping you warm and protect you from the sun and dust. Also, you should wear sunglasses or goggles. The ultraviolet rays from the sun have a more substantial effect at high altitudes. Therefore, to protect your eyes, 100% UV ray protective eye gear is recommended.

Sunblock or cream/lotions are also essential. To prevent getting sunburnt, you must apply sunblock to your exposed skin. Lip balms can also come in handy since the cold may damage your lips.

Food and drinks during Everest Helicopter Tour

There are various restaurants and lodges located along the route of the trip. The best location to have breakfast is at Everest View Hotel. You can get a few more choices of food at this hotel. The food here is hygienic and delicious.

Similarly, the restaurants at other locations are also clean and provide tasty meals. You can grab a quick bite or a cup of coffee at Lukla when you stop for fuel. We will be providing you with purified and boiled water. You can also carry your bottles.

Some typical dishes available during the tour are

Breakfast

  • Toasted Bread
  • Pancakes
  • Eggs

Lunch

  • Dal Bhat
  • Momo (Dumplings)
  • Noodles
  • Thukpa

Alcoholic drinks are not recommended during this trip as they make you prone to altitude sickness.

  • Altitude sickness during Everest Helicopter flight

Altitude sickness is one of the major concerns for travellers who plan to make journeys to high altitude regions. Similarly, when it comes to the Everest region, you will be travelling at great heights. The lowest areas of the Everest region begin around 2,500 meters, and the highest is at 8,848 meters, which is the summit of Mt. Everest. However, understanding altitude sickness and preventing it can be tricky during the Everest Helicopter flight.

During the flight, the helicopter is pressurized internally so that passengers will not feel the change of air thickness of the altitude. Instead, the oxygen inside the helicopter will be enough to prevent altitude sickness from occurring inside the helicopter. Thus, there are minimal chances of facing altitude sickness when you are flying.

Once you step out, the atmospheric pressure changes drastically. Therefore, the itinerary only includes short landing time in high altitude places such as Kala Patthar. If you spend more time in such high-altitude areas, you might experience the symptoms of altitude sickness.

It is also suggested that you do not tire yourself when you are at high altitude places. The helicopters will have ample oxygen tanks for emergency uses. In case of emergency, oxygen supply can help mild the symptoms of altitude sickness.

  • Safety Tips

Your safety is our top priority. However, nobody else can be more responsible for your safety than yourself. On our side, we will do our best to keep you safe and secure during the trip. Here are some safety tips you can follow to ensure your safety:

  • Always wear your seat belt. The first thing to check when you board the helicopter is your seat belt. To stay stable when during the flight, you must wear your seat belts. Make sure you fasten in before the flight takes off. If you are having trouble with the seat belt or if the belt is damaged, inform the pilot immediately. Do not compromise when it comes to wearing seat belts.
  • Do not get off from your seat unless the pilot clears you to. When the landing is complete, and the engine is off, the pilot will then inform you that it is okay to get up from the seat. During some circumstances, the pilot may need to re-position the helicopter even after landing. Thus, make sure you are clear to stand up.
  • Always follow the pilot’s (captain) or the guide’s instructions. Their instructions are aligned with your safety. Make sure you are aware of the instructions that they give you. You will be given a pre-flight briefing. However, during certain circumstances, the captain/guide may have to instruct you. Make sure you follow through.
  • Do not smoke on the helicopter. As the trip takes you to high altitudes, smoking is not encouraged on the trip.
  • Refrain from throwing objects from the helicopter.

My Experience of Everest Helicopter Tour with Kalapatthar Landing Review

This was by far the best experience I have ever had in Nepal. There is no more natural way to reach Everest than this tour. The trip was worth the money, and I enjoyed every second of it! The guide and the pilot provided by the company were terrific.

My trip was scheduled for June. I was worried my booking might get canceled due to bad weather. Fortunately, the weather was clear, and our flight was good to go. We left early in the morning around 5:30, and we landed at Kala Patthar around 7:20 am. The atmosphere was a little foggy, but it all created up once we reached Kala Patthar.

We couldn’t get many pictures on our way to Kala Patthar, but we got amazing photos of the mountains once we arrived there. Luckily on our way back, we could get good aerial pictures from the helicopter.

If you are making this trip, don’t miss out on the breakfast at the Hotel Everest View! They have fantastic food and having a meal with those mountains in front of you is an experience you will not get anywhere else. In conclusion, I had the best time of my life during this trip. I would do this again.

I recommend this trip to anyone willing to spend a few more bucks on traveling around the Himalayas. Try signing up with Himalaya Holiday Service. They provide services worth the money. You will not regret doing so!
